BRANDING

Tie’N’Fly Outfitters
– Case Study

Build a Brand That Travels Further

Tie’N’Fly Outfitters owned by Gavin Platz already held a strong reputation within the international salt water fly fishing community, renowned for premium guided fishing experiences worldwide and the creation of custom hand-crafted flies. idealDESIGN was engaged to build upon this established foundation by developing a stronger and more cohesive visual identity across multiple media platforms.

The goal was to refine and elevate the existing brand into a recognisable visual style that could consistently communicate the professionalism, adventure, and premium nature of the Tie’N’Fly Outfitters experience across apparel, promotional material, signage, print, and digital media.

idealDESIGN developed a complete visual communication strategy focused on creating a strong and memorable brand presence with consistency across every customer touchpoint.

The Brief

Gavin & Debby Platz of Tie’N’Fly Outfitters required a refined brand direction that would:

  • Capture the spirit of travel, exploration, and outdoor lifestyle
  • Appeal to a modern market with a clean and recognisable look
  • Create consistency across apparel, print, packaging, signage, and online media
  • Establish a professional identity ready for long-term business growth

Rather than redesigning the existing logo, the project focused on expanding and strengthening the visual identity surrounding the established brand. The objective was to create a flexible and recognisable style system capable of adapting across multiple applications while maintaining authenticity within the fly fishing and outdoor industry.

The Process

Brand Discovery & Concept Development

The project began with concept exploration and visual direction focused on outdoor culture, adventure branding, and lifestyle aesthetics. The client had the idea to have an underwater scene on the shop window showing saltwater flies swimming around his legs. Then as people walked past they could see him sitting at his desk tying flies, with his legs “appearing” in the water. The illustrations began with the intended expansion of the images being used across the brand through multiple media. Typography, colour palettes, iconography, and layout systems were then developed to create a timeless and versatile identity.

Brand Expansion & Identity Development

Building upon the existing TieNFly Outfitters logo and reputation, idealDESIGN developed a cohesive visual language that strengthened brand recognition across a wide range of applications including:

  • Apparel and merchandise
  • Shop window graphics
  • Packaging and labelling
  • Social media and website graphics
  • Promotional material and signage

The refined branding maintained the authentic outdoor and fly fishing culture associated with TieNFly Outfitters while elevating the presentation into a polished and professional visual identity suited to international exposure.

Visual Communication & Brand Application

idealDESIGN extended the branding across multiple visual applications to ensure consistency throughout the customer experience. This included layout styling, promotional concepts, apparel presentation, and branded marketing material.
